dc.description.abstract Background: Tuberculosis infection control measures are intended to reduce transmission in health care settings, mass congregations and in households. However the status of its implementation has not been widely studied in developing countries. Tuberculosis infection control practices are highly critical. Ethiopia, which is listed as high TB burden globally. So this study is conducted to assess status of tuberculosis infection control in public health centers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Objective: The main objective of this study was to assess status of TBIC in public health centers, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: A phenomenological qualitative study was conducted, and the study was conducted in public health centers found in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Six study subjects interviewed. Semi structured interview guide was used for in depth interview with health care workers. Observation of the health setting was also done using a check list. All interview were done in Amharic, the interview was recorded digitally and transcribed verbatim in Amharic. After validating the transcription, the typed narrative were translated to English and verified for analysis exactly same as the original in Amharic. The transcripts were coded by using Open code software. Followed that grouped categories was refined and used to generate themes. Thematic analysis was done. Results: This study found that TBIC measures are not implemented properly. The public health centers have TBIC plan but the practice is poor. Barriers that hamper TBIC implementation are infrastructure, health care system, patient behavior and financial factors. Although poor administrative and facility infection control practice also observed. Conclusion and recommendation: Efforts need to be made to design and implement programs particularly for TBIC measures, which aim at improving TBIC in facility level, KAP of health care workers and the society. Managerial support through active participation on TBIC activities, support and supervision, continuous training, improving accessible of supplies for utilization should be provided by Addis Ababa health bureau and regional laboratory.
