Abstract:
The utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) in the medical field in the form of electronic medical record (EMR) system had been promoted as a way to reduce cost, increase effectiveness and improve the quality of care. In Ethiopia, the EMR is being rapidly implemented in both public and private sector healthcare facilities. However, the utilization of the EMR system has been met with partial success. Therefore, the study sought to find out the factors affecting utilization of electronic medical record (EMR) at Menelik ii comprehensive specialized hospital, focusing on the attitudes of healthcare professionals, the influence of organizational culture, the proficiency in computer skill among health professionals and the extent to which staff training impacts EMR utilization. Using an explanatory research design, this study employs a quantitative approach to gather and analyze data. Surveys were distributed to a diverse group of healthcare professionals at Menelik ii comprehensive specialized hospital, including doctors, nurses, and administrative staff. The survey was designed to capture data on their attitudes towards EMR system, perceptions of the organizational culture, their proficiency in computer skill and the impact of training.
