dc.description.abstract This study explored the dynamics of maternal mortality and morbidity due to primary postpartum haemorrhage following in-hospital birth, and the challenges faced by maternal healthcare providers during the management of this condition. Incidence of death was high compared to other African countries. Multiple modifiable or preventable barriers were identified and are reflected in concepts in the Three Delays Model, e.g., delay in receiving appropriate care, resourcing issues and poor preparation. The findings can help derive practical solutions by healthcare organisations in northwest Ethiopia and guide clinical practice, training and education, policy, and future research on maternity care. en_US
