Abstract:
Suicidal ideation and attempt usually occur during adolescence time, and living in war affected area made the problem more predominate and severe. Studies from Bangladesh and Lebanon revealed that students who experience traumatic circumstances are more likely to harbor suicidal thoughts. High rates of suicidality were found in African studies, such as those conducted on students from war-torn areas in South Africa and Uganda. In Ethiopia there are also areas affected by traumatic events one of the areas was Woldia town, which is found in North Wollo in Northeast of Ethiopia. High school students in this town were one of the demographic groups affected by the conflict's aftereffects. And to the best of my knowledge there were no studies done among high school students who live in conflict affected areas in Ethiopia, including in the Woldia town, so the aim of this study is to assess the prevalence and associated factors of suicidal ideation and attempt among high school students in Ethiopia.
