Abstract

A mental disorder is a syndrome characterized by clinically significant disturbance in an individual’s cognition, emotion regulation, or behavior that reflects a dysfunction in the psychological, biological, or developmental processes underlying mental functioning. Persons living with mental disorders seek different pathways in accessing mental health care. The pathways can be broadly categorized as biomedical care and alternative care. The choice of care mostly depends on the self and family’s perceptions of the cause of the illness. This study aimed to explore the magnitude and associated factors of seeking non-psychiatric care among patients with mental disorders attending in selected public hospitals in Tigray, North Ethiopia.
