Assessment of utilization, practice, indication and complications of blood and blood component therapy at internal medicine wards, Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital

Abstract

Despite the increased use of blood and blood component transfusion there seems to be an obvious lack in the knowledge and practice of the process. There is also a lack of institution wide guideline on the practice and adequate training given to physicians. This is a special concern because even though blood and blood component transfusion is a life saving process it carries its own risks.
