Abstract:
Problem statement: Ethiopia has launched the Road Sector Development Program (RSDP) to improve the networks and standards of road in 1997. Following this, the road standards and networks in Addis Ababa City have been substantially improved. However Occupational accident of road construction worker and associated factors were not empirically studied.
Objective: To assess the magnitude of occupational accident and the associated factors at the Addis Ababa City Road Authority active/ongoing road construction projects Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted from February 28, 2023to march 28, 2023.Using a proportion to size methods 229 respondents were selected from the total of 790 construction site workers. A questionnaire was administrated to collect data. The data was entered using the Epi info and imported to the SPSS software for analysis.
Results:The result of the study revealed that (35.4%) of the respondents exposed to occupational accidents. Variables such as Age ranges between21- 30 years (AOR=0.285; (95% CI, (0.110,0.741)), lack of work experience AOR=10.672( 95% CI 3.202,35.573)Availability of Personal protective equipment(no) (AOR=31.363; (95% CI, (3.292,298.774)), and wearing all essential PPE while working(no) (AOR=4.305; (95% CI, (1.99 1,9.301)) were shown significant association with occupational accident.
Conclusion and Recommendations: The magnitude of accidents on the road construction site in Addis Ababa is high. Road authority should assign more experienced workers on the risk places than the new .All workers Should get material and training on how to use it.
