dc.description.abstract Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus is a type of diabetes which occurs during pregnancy. It is characterized by high blood sugar level which is recognized during pregnancy. The prevalence of GDM is increasing globally due to sedentary life style and obesity. Knowing about the prevalence and associated factor helps in determining the best intervention by early detection through regular screening and appropriate management which help in reducing the complication for both mother and child. Objective : To Assess the Prevalence and associated Factors of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus among pregnant women, in Lemi Kura sub-city Abebech Gobena Hospital, Addis Ababa Ethiopia , in 2024 Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among on 324 pregnant women receiving antenatal care from November 15, 2023 – March 9, 2024. Data was collected using structured interviews and medical record review then data was coded and entered in EPI Info, Using the statistical program STATA version 14 software, descriptive statistics was used to summarize the demographic characteristics and prevalence of GDM , while logistic regression identified associated factors. Results: The study showed key factors associated with GDM , including family history of diabetes , gravidity , parity and dietary habits. Conclusion : This study shows high prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) which is significantly higher than rates reported in other parts of Ethiopia and Africa. A family history of diabetes, higher parity, and dietary choices, notably the consumption of unprocessed foods, have all been recognized as important risks. These findings emphasize the critical necessity of targeted screening and early intervention methods for lowering GDM risk in high-risk individuals en_US
