Background: Violence against women(VAW) is a significant public health problem, as well as a fundamental violation of women’s human right violation. Globally almost one in every three women and nearly half of Ethiopian women experience lifetime VAW. This negative health outcomes should be addressed by the health system, However many public health facilities in Africa do not currently have capacity to provide comprehensive, patient-centered sexual violence (SV) care to adult and child survivors.
Objectives: To explore health care providers experience in providing quality care in post rape care service and post rape care unit quality assessment in Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Menelik II Comprehensive Specialized Hospital and Abebech Gobenna Maternal Center.
Methods: This study employed a Phenomenological qualitative design. The participants are health care provider at 3 hospitals delivering one stop integrated center. Purposive sampling procedure was used to select participants. Data was collected using semi structured interview guide and structured observation guide. Data was analyzed using thematic content analysis.
Result the findings show that the post rape care service receives increasing amount of victims due to awareness, mostly reported are women and under 18.the post rape care center in the hospital lack vaccination like hepatitis B and some medical equipments and need to refer patient. The health providers highlighted the lack of inconsistent supplies and poor resource management as their main frustration and burnout in addition to lack of ongoing training.
Conclusion and recommendation The study highlights the significance of a survivor-centered approach for effective post-rape care. Collaboration, resource management strategies, and continuous training are crucial for comprehensive support. Awareness programs and attitude change initiatives are essential to ensure sustainable care for sexual violence survivors, addressing resource challenges and preventing burnout among healthcare providers.
