Description:
Background:-IUCD and Contraception Implant are highly effective, with pregnancy rates of
less than one percent per year. Countries with a high prevalence of undesired pregnancies can
get more benefit from LARC method.
Objective:-To assess utilization of long acting reversible contraception methods and its
associated factors among current family planning user in health facilities of Hawassa city,
SNNPR, 2019Gc
Method:-Institution based cross sectional study was conducted in March to April 2019Gc.
Sample size of the study was 323. Five health facilities were randomly selected by lottery
method and the sample was proportionally distributed to each health facility. Interviewer
administered structured questionnaire was used. Epi data and SPSS were used for data entry and
analyses. Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to see the presence of association.
P-value <0.25 in bivariate analysis were entered in to multivariate logistic regression. P-value
< 0.05 under 95% CI were considered as having significant association with dependent variable
and considered as statistical significance in this study
Result:-Three hundred fourteen current family planning user were interviewed. Utilization of
LARC method was 29.3% of which 76(24.2%) were Contraception Implant and 16(5.1%) were
IUCD. Women who had number of living child more than 2 were 2.21 times more likely utilize
LARC method than those who had less than 2 children. Those who had high knowledge about
LARC method were 3 times more likely utilize LARC method than those who had low
knowledge about LARC method AOR=2.99, 95%CI (1.20-7.48) and women who had got
greeting and welcoming by health care provider 3.13 times more likely utilize LARC method
than those who were not AOR=3.13,95%CI (1.12-8.76)
Conclusion and recommendation: - The current utilization of LARC method in the study area
was 29.3%.Number of living children, Knowledge about LARC and welcoming and greeting
were significantly associated with utilization of LARC. To increase utilization of LARC
Hawassa town health office and NGOs working on family planning should focus on awareness
creation and attitude about LARC method.
