dc.description.abstract The Government of Ethiopia has made remarkable progress over the past two decades in making family planning services available and increasing contraceptive coverage in the country. From 2000 to 2019, the contraceptive prevalence increased from 8.2% in 2000 to 41% in 2019; the percentage of married women with an unmet need for FP decreased from 37% in 2000 to 22% in 2016. Despite this considerable progress, Ethiopia is still characterized by rapid population growth (2.6%), a high fertility rate (4.6 births per woman in 2016), and significant urban-to-rural fertility variations (2.3 in urban areas and 5.2 in rural areas). en_US
