| dc.description.abstract | Tuberculosis (TB) is a major global public health problem. About a quarter of the world’s population is infected with Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and thus at risk of developing TB disease. TB is among the top 10 causes of death globally. According to 2020 WHO Global TB Report, an estimated 10.0 million people fell ill with TB, 1.2 million TB deaths among HIV-negative people and an additional 208,000 deaths among PLHIV in 2019. Drugresistant TB continues to be a global public health threat with 3.4% of new TB cases and 18% of previously treated cases having multidrug resistant TB or rifampicin-resistant TB (MDR/RR-TB). | en_US |
