Background: Community-based health insurance program scheme is an emerging strategy for providing financial protection against health-related poverty. The program is also becoming a promising concept in tackling financial health care issues confronting the poor communities in developing countries. However, the available evidence on the factors associated with utilization is not enough in the study setting.
Objective: To assess the current community-based health insurance utilization and the associated factors in the community of Bole sub city, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2021.
Methods: A community based cross-sectional study design was used. A total of 438sample size was determined by using a single population proportion formula. Independent variables having p-value <0.25 in the bivariate logistic regression analysis was entered into multivariable logistic regression analysis in order to control confounding effect. Completeness of data was checked, then entered into Epi-Data version 3.1 statistical software, and then exported to SPSS version 23for data analysis.
Result: The overall community-based health insurance program utilization was 71.2%. Factors such as income greater than 2000 Ethiopia birr (AOR = 2; 95% CI = 1.12-2.63), frequent health education (AOR=0.3; 95% CI=0.12, 0.63) and disease status (AOR=2, 95% CI=1.88, 3.63) had statistically significant association with community-based health insurance utilization. Conclusion and Recommendation: Income and disease status were significantly associated with community-based health insurance utilization. Therefore, reducing membership and medical cost are very important for the community to increase utilization of community-based health insurance services. .............................
