Diagnostics quality management system training- Facilitator guide
In today’s healthcare landscape, diagnostic services form the backbone of effective treatment and
patient care. The accuracy and timeliness of diagnoses are critical for developing effective treatment
plans, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring efficient healthcare delivery. As technological

advances continue to reshape the healthcare field, the demand for reliable, accessible, and high-
quality diagnostics has never been more essential.

Basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC): Trainer's guide
Ministry of Health
The Safe Motherhood Initiative, launched in 1987, has greatly increased the attention given to
the problem of maternal morbidity and has helped to improve care for pregnant women. At the
same time, child survival programs have helped reduce overall infant mortality, including
mortality during the newborn period. Despite these efforts, however, maternal and newborn
mortality and morbidity, and stillbirth rates have remained high. Maternal and newborn
morbidity and mortality in Africa remains at an unacceptably tragic level. A woman in Africa
has a 1 in 16 risk of dying due to complications of pregnancy, childbirth, or the postpartum.
Globally, it is estimated that 34 out of every 1000 newborns will die before it reaches one month
of life.

Ministry of Health
The healthcare landscape in Ethiopia has witnessed significant transformation over recent decades,
particularly through the establishment of the Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) system, which serves as a
cornerstone for delivering comprehensive health services across urban and rural settings. The PHCU model
encompasses health centers, health posts,

Ministry of Health
Ethiopia has made a significant progress on social development, including poverty reduction, with
encouraging results on communicable disease control, improved nutrition, maternal and child health.
The country is strongly committed to maintaining this progress towards Universal Health Coverage.
At the same time, all segments of the population in Ethiopia show signs of the epidemiological shift
occurring in most African countries, with a fast-growing prevalence of NCD, which call for new and
innovative public health strategies to tackle the double burden of diseases.
